Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

08 Feb 2024February 2024. Direction: Caerphilly to Cardiff.
Only two stars for the simple reason that the route includes a section of a couple of miles along busy roads. Coming out of Caerphilly on the B4623, Mountain Road, there are pavements, but after the second bend it`s along the grass verge. I would consider it is safe enough, but generally, just not pleasant walking. Although only a "B" road, it was very busy. The route then joins the A469, the main road to Cardiff, which was even busier. After turning off the A469 at The Traveller`s Rest pub, it`s a fine walk through fields (very muddy in places) and woodlands and then at Tongwynlais following the Taff Trail into Cardiff. It`s easy to navigate and fairly well signposted, although there are lots of criss-crossing paths through the woodlands.
This is not a walk I would do again, but it`s a safe and reasonably direct route and if you don`t mind a couple of miles of walking alongside busy roads, it`s fine. However, I`m sure there must be a good alternative route using the many footpaths between Mountain Road in Caerphilly and the woodland section that avoids the main roads. The good news is that Caecar2 is already an excellent and verified route via the Penrhos Cutting.
