Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

13 Sep 2024Walked Edgware to Bushey.
In this direction the route is uphill, coming out of the London basin to the ridge at Bushey. It was a bit of a slog up Dennis Lane to Bushey Common, and then at the top I discovered that the next 2km was along an ‘A’ road (and still mostly uphill, just not as steep). So that is why I dropped a star.
That said, it’s a pretty good direct route, with a couple of lovely parks, both with benches and refreshments. And Bushey Heath has a wide selection of shops and cafes, so the ‘A’ road section is not that bad! (And it is direct).
The residential streets are mostly very pleasant and upscale, including some lovely looking ‘moderne’ style 1930s era houses near Stanmore Station.
There are drop out points at Stanmore (Jubilee line) and buses at various points too.

12 Sep 2024I started at Edgware (bus from Mill Hill Broadway Station). I agree with Derick, a pleasant walk with plenty of gree surroundings in spite of the traffic. I particularly liked Canons Park and King George Recreation Park (both with cafes and toilets). At Bushey, I went through the delightful Rose Garden to get from Herkomer Road to the High Street instead of Koh-I-Noor Avenue. There are benches, undercover seating and toilets in the garden. The Village Cafe in Bushey High Street looks good. St. James' Church (where the route ends) is worth a look. It's 14th Century with 1870 additions.
There are also cafes and toilets in the Broadwalk Shopping Centre at Edgware and toilets in Stanmore Station.

23 Oct 2022I walked this again, but in the opposite direction. I wouldn't change much to the review, except that the colours of the trees were amazing! See the photos. There was unfortunately more cars parked on the pavement this time around :-(.

24 Apr 2022I walked this from Edgware to Bushey on a 16°C spring day. It hadn't rained for a while.
After leaving Edgware the walk up and through Canon's Park was lovely. It is quite a climb up Bushy Heath, but once you get there there are great views. This was quite a nice route. Even where it was suburban, it was green. The only less nice part was the slog up "The Common" and crossing the A409 to get into Hertfortshire.
