Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

18 Jan 2024A nice route between a small village and a large town, with shops and transport links at both ends.
Starting in Burtonwood, the route passes through the middle of the village before turning down an unpaved road. Care is needed, as it can be busy as times, but there's ample room on the verges if needed. We're not on it long, however; the route continues ahead on a farm track. It runs across fields, and can be muddy and wet in places.
Just past an area where slurry is piled up, the path runs south towards the treeline, but it can be hard to see and easy to miss, as it's not signposted and can appear very slight in wet weather or if the crops are low. Once across two fields, we follow the treeline oast the pylon, before passing into another field, an often muddy track heading towards the motorway.
Past a crossroads of paths, we follow the hedge footpath to and then alongside the M62, before we go under it using a subway. Beyond, a muddy footpath that runs between an industrial estate and the Sankey Brook. It can be very muddy, and even flooded in places, so take care in winter conditions! Eventually, we join a grass track that runs alongside the brook, before we take a bridge and follow the earth footpath all the way to Bewsey, where we cross another bridge and follow a long paved road walk into Warrington.
A good, albeit often muddy, rural and brookside walk. Despite close proximity of motorway, industrial estates and housing, it's often a quiet and pleasant walk. Terrain and some obstacles make it a foot-only route.

05 May 2021Pleasant, with a surprisingly rural feel, even round the industrial estates and near the motorway. Mostly flat but with lots of rough/grassy/muddy track and a few steps. Probably not suitable for wheelchairs. A couple of road crossings leaving Warrington, and a section of pavement-less road outside Burtonwood. Pubs at either end. Very accurately mapped.
