Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Hiking Historian
13 Nov 2022Due to some of the terrain, this is a foot-only route.
From the centre of Burtonwood, we're on footpaths straight away: tarmac becomes rough earth and stone, and, after a short pavement walk, we're across a field. Footpaths through the Sankey Valley takes us across both the brook and the canal. A short walk through a residential area, and we're back along the brook, paved in some places, but mostly an earthern, and sometimes muddy, path that brings us out at Newton-le-Willows station.
You don't have to follow the route to the station as is on the map: the station is right across the road.
A great walk through mostly green spaces.
