24 Apr 2021Not terrible but I feel falls foul of 1, 4 and 10 of the methodology for Slow Ways. The only section I did not feel safe was the section along Abnalls Lane, west of Lichfield. The lane is narrow, has steep sides and is used a lot as a rat run between Lichfield and Burntwood. To be fair, it is a section of the Heart of England Way, but a section I would always try and avoid and would not recommend anyone to walk. The route is certainly not direct and travels a long way north east to pick up the Heart of England Way when there are safer more direct footpaths linking the two settlements. There is a lot of on road walking on this route and I think the Heart of England Way has proved a distraction. There is a lot of pleasant country walking on this route but it is not direct or safe enough for me to recommend it.
