Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

The route largely follows Fife Coastal Path. Burntisland is an interesting town, historically speaking. The route follows the east side of the sandy bay but cuts inland under the railway line to join the pavement beside the A921. Unfortunately, the road is busy and the railway embankment blocks views of the sea. It does, however, pass the monument that marks the spot where king Alexander III fell to his death when riding to Kinghorn one stormy night in 1286. When the tide is out, however, a much better walk is along the shore to Pettycur and Kinghorn. If it is possible to walk along the sandy beach at Burntisland where the route goes inland then the rest of the shore route will be passible. Ideally walk on a falling tide but in any case it is essential to check tide tables. The route along the shore is worth four stars.
