Description
Having seen Ken's review of BroLut one with his safety concerns about the road south of Ashby Parva, I eventually decided that this was the best alternative available, because the main road has a pavement for most of the stretch needed here and a walkable verge for the rest, which makes it safe. The rest is on good paths, bridlepaths, pavements and quiet back streets. I test walked it today and am happy to upload it

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

28 Jan 2026 (edited 29 Jan 2026)Walked from Broughton Astley to Lutterworth. This is almost the shortest safe route available, apart from a minor detour through quieter back streets of Lutterworth to minimise the walking alongside the A426, and another to use a pelican crossing to reach the awkwardly located Lutterworth meeting point. There are some wet and muddy sections so wear good waterproof boots. There is a short section on slightly rough verges beyond the north end of the A426 pavement, but no safety concerns.
From Broughton Astley, our route to Dunton Bassett was familiar to me having walked it a few weeks ago as part of the SlowWays route to Kibworth. It had been icy today, but in milder conditions some of the fields are very wet and muddy. We follow The Mount uphill - the right hand pavement is better, then head straight on onto Little Lunnon, which becomes a very quiet single track lane beyond the village.
Where the road heads right, we take the bridleway straight on, which is fairly well signposted and is a good track initially but has some boggy sections once beyond the farm road and one rather odd mossy concrete footbridge over a side stream. Cauldwell Lane is also quiet, and has wide verges. Once we reach the A426, the best option is to stay on the western verge as far as Hall Lane - this verge is wide and grassy but rather uneven, the only obstacles being the road signs.
From Hall Lane onwards the main road has a surfaced pavement all the way, so although the walk is noisy, it is completely safe. It would be easy enough to stay on the main road all the way into Lutterworth, but I chose to escape into the side streets and reflected this when drawing the route. The meeting point in Lutterworth is not a good choice - there is a car park here, but no seats, and most of the facilities are west of the main road.
