Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

24 Apr 2021Good direct route. The route is mostly in good repair. I walked from Lichfield. Very little on road walking (mainly near Hammerwich). A nice walk through the west of Lichfield then fields as far as the village of Hammerwich. Having crossed the old railway the route was a little confusing and maybe needs tightening to know exactly where to go. The next stage involves a sharp climb up to Watling Street (the A5) and then following the ancient way along a nice wide pavement beside a dual carriageway (there are a couple of pubs along this stretch) as far as a short stretch of the Anglesey Branch of the Wyrley and Essington Canal. A descent via steps then takes you down to the north end of the marvellous McClean Way, the old railway line from Lichfield to Walsall that has been spruced up for walkers. This delivers you to Brownhills via Smithy's Forge Gate although this was not clear from the Brolic gpx file. Overall an enjoyable route that takes you through a variety of surroundings. I'd definitely recommend it. The descent/ascent from the A5 could be an issue but on this particualr route there is no alternative.
