20 Jan 2023Very simple route to follow, nice to walk along the race course path instead of next to the road for the top section. If you're starting near Happy Valley park in Woodingdean it's more interesting to walk up & over the fields instead of down Warren Road...Elm Grove is steep if coming from Brighton!.

21 Aug 2021Safe and easy to follow route along well trodden paths. Most of the walk approaching Brighton follows the race track where you can enjoy the beautiful panoramas of the coastline.

13 Aug 2021Walked on 13th August 2021 continuing on from WOOLEW from Lewes to Brighton. This is a pleasant walk into the city centre with fine views towards the sea and with a panorama of the whole city to the west. I started from the Circa Deli walking along Warren Road until reaching Brighton Race Course. The route continues alongside the track, then crosses via a subway close to the grandstand. From here, it then decends into the the city down Elm Grove, past Brighton General Hospital. Elm Grove is an attractive avenue which still has a number of mature elm trees dating back to the mid 19th century which the council has managed to protect from the ravages of elm disease. The walk finishes off on The Level, passing St. Peter's church by the architect Sir Charles Barry, and bearing a strong familial resemblance to the Palace of Westminster, Barry's most famous commission.
The route is accurately traced on the map and easy to follow.

Funky
13 May 2021Very straightforward route, direct but utilises the path on the south side of the racecourse so you can avoid just walking along the road. Great views down to the sea across Sheepcote Valley.
Walked as part of a longer walk to Lewes - so if you are doing the same then instead of going into Woodingdean itself, return to Warren Road before the end of the racecourse, and take the Drove Road where you will eventually join up with the Slow Way from Woodingdean to Lewes.
