Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

23 Jun 2024If the issues at Thorrington can be resolved this is a pleasant walk. To avoid this road, I back-tracked north over the railway line to a footpath towards Hockley woods and onto Station Road. Then onto Frating Abbey Farm to join the footpath heading south west to Thorrington and Glebe farm. Keep following the path to Morses farm and into Brightlingsea.
There are a good number of places to stop for refreshments on this route, not least in Brightlingsea itself. The Kings Arms and Snooty Fox at Frating, The Court House and Costcutter opposite at Hares Green.
In Brightlingsea, the small Springmead Gardens is a nice oasis in the middle of town.

11 Jun 2021We walked from Brighlingsea as far as Thorrington. Most of the path is pretty easy going, if a bit overgrown. At one point the farmer has blocked the entrance with some equipment - I think due to unwanted travellers - but you can still get by onto the path.
