Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

12 Apr 2024Walked from Colwinston to Bridgend. Nice route that is easy to follow. The first section is along very quiet country roads – only 4 cars passed me. Then through fields to the outskirts of Bridgend, where it took a while to cross the A48, but all in all, not too bad.

29 Mar 2024Walking from Colwinston to Bridgend
A really nice start off road circling the church and then pleasant, peaceful walking along historic quiet lanes.
The first part in this direction is a gentle ascent until you reach the trig point. Then it’s off road on Ewenny Priory estate land descending down a steep slope through the fields.
My favourite part of the walk was taking a short diversion to take a visit to St Michaels church and Ewenny Priory. There is a living museum at the back of the church with old chambers remembering Maurice de Londre. The priory was made famous by a Turner painting the ancient rood screen still standing at the back. You can still see the damage caused by animals being tethered to the roof screen in the 16-17th century.
After a lazy wonder and a coffee I was back on track following a narrow path between two fences to reach the edge of urban Bridgend.
Other than a crossing at the A48 (take care!). It’s a safe and scenic walk mostly by road.
I would recommend doing this route.

02 Dec 2023December 2023. Direction: Colwinston to Bridgend.
A pleasant walk firstly through country lanes from Colwinston, then the middle section through fields around the Ewenny Priory estate, before entering the outskirts of Bridgend for the last leg. There are several styles and gates on the middle section. The land around the route is intensive agriculture most of the way, but there are some nice views over the Ewenny Valley and Bridgend after leaving the lanes and descending down through the fields. It may be worth taking a small detour for a couple of hundred metres to look at the church, but the priory itself is private land.

03 Oct 2021This route is fine - easy to navigate with no significant access issues. Leaving Bridgend it took some concentration to cross the A48, even on a Sunday morning, and there were a few stone slabs instead of stiles - but overall, it’s a good route.
