07 Sep 2024To mangle a football cliché, this is a route of two halves. From Brill to Waddesdon the route is rural, often across fields - and I mean across rather than round the edges of them. It's also undulating - the Chilterns are very much in evidence! Possibly as a consequence of the undulating terrain, a significant proportion of the route is on pasture, so both cows and sheep were present when I walked it. Some short sections were very overgrown, particularly between Dorton and Ashendon, and I regretted not bringing secateurs to clear brambles and nettles. That didn't detract from my enjoyment, but it's best to be prepared.
From Waddesdon to Aylesbury the bulk of the route is on cycle paths or roads, and is much flatter. From Aylesbury Vale station onward, the bulk of the route is next to the A41.
I wouldn't recommend it for anything wheeled - even the second half has a couple of stiles and some bumpy terrain.
Waddesdon is approximately half-way, and provides a convenience store and refreshment opportunities. It even has buses to and from Aylesbury (routes 16 and 17), which is helpful if you want to do the route in sections - though Brill isn't well served in that respect.
The route crosses part of the Waddesdon Manor estate, and also the route of HS2. As Tnarg has noted in the review dated 17 March 2024, there is no significant diversion for this route - crossing the construction site is clear and well marked.

17 Mar 2024Not sure why the above comment had problems with HS2. Maybe old info, was open when I walked it and had no plans to close anytime soon. Had been raining a lot in last month but despite that the route was mostly fine. There was a damp section mid way bewteen Ashendon and Dorton which is what is stopping me from giving this a 5 star, but if it a dryer time of the year then this could easier be 5 start. If you are looking for a shorter route you can cut out Waddesdon and go south of Upper cranwell farm and via Upper Winchendon but it is more muddy.

12 Jun 2023Be aware that the route of HS2 crosses paths between Waddesdon and Aylesbury Vale Parkway Station. Although it looks as if the path used for Briayl one will remain open, there may be some disruption until the line is completed.

26 Mar 2024This review is unfair. There is no problems crossing HS2 and it looks like this is a planed crossing point for HS2 going forward.
