Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

I walked from Poynton church in lovely village of Poynton to Bramhall I walked on the main road as I got to the Poynton train station turn right to Spinners Lane and got to the football field first, I took a wrong turn end up to Deva Close I had to turn back to find my way to end of the football field and found the footpath which was not clear from the other side, as I got to Woodford Road it was a bit complicated with no sign had to guess my way round with a bit of uncertainty I went as I thought I am going through someone’s, gate luckily I guessed right and found the footpath on the other side eventually got to the side of Bramhall oil Terminal which a few scrap metal was lying around as you can see in photo could do with being removed once I passed the oil Terminal I started walking on the footpath which is situated on the back of house on the Adelaide Road on a easy walk very squeezed and difficult to walk through it as you can see on the photo.
Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy the walk.
Which it is a sham for such a lovely neighbourhood.

This is a good Slow Way with a surprising view!

There are a couple of short pinch points where the path is overgrown. These were passable when walking, but would force runners to slow down to skip sideways.

The other reviews explain the rest. It's a good functional route and I'd walk it again.

The climb over the knoll is well worth the view and should give access to the a555 .....action council.

I walked this Bramhall to Poynton, safe and easy to follow but a fair bit of road walking which is difficult to avoid for a direct urban walk.

I had initially misinterpreted the meeting place in Bramhall but later discovered a seated quiet spot by the church just a few yards from the chaotic and busy road junction. The route heads off down a quiet road and on reflection I would ignore the footpath behind the houses, fenced in by the fuel depot green as it may be. So I recommend keeping to the estate roads and admiring the front gardens and take the signed footpath between 115 and 117 to join the plotted route.

The path remains along the boundary of the depot but now we have fields to one side. The footpath turns right and would then have continued across the route of the new road. The path has been diverted to access a bridge under the road with the railway. First it runs alongside the road but annoyingly climbing then dropping again. The only consolation for the effort this takes is the brief northward view to the hills of the Peak District. If you have seen those hills before try the plotted route which avoids the exertion.

Distaff Farm offers no issue from this direction but from the road the impressive gates may be off putting. A hand gate to one side allows pedestrians to pass along the public path. This route avoids crossing the railway here and heads down a rather narrow footpath onto an estate road then a further path between the houses links to a playing field. These paths and the field are not recorded as public access but there are no lockable barriers so it's freely available at all times.

The route comes out by the station which is another benefit of this route. The final approach to Poynton is along the road passing the impressive welcome sign and advice that this is a 'Shared Space Village' with the instruction, or was it a request to 'Give Way to All'. Plenty of seats surround the unmarked road junction which causes sufficient confusion to seriously slow the traffic.
