Description
This route is more scenic than the others proposed as after leaving Bloxwich it is almost all along the canal until the last 100m or so into Walsall. Although slightly longer it goes through pleasant countryside with plenty of nature and avoids all main roads

21 Jun 2023 (edited 23 Jun 2023)Walked from Walsall to Bloxwich. An excellent and fairly direct route. The canal walk is very pleasant. There are steps up to Fryers Road and avoidable steps on the railway bridge.
From Walsall, we head for the canal basin and follow the south bank round to Moat Road, where an old canal bridge offers access to the west bank of the canal to Bloxwich. We start alongside a flight of locks, then join the Wyrley and Essington canal. There is a short section where the towpath surface is rougher and narrower, but beyond Leamore Lane it is fully tarmacked. The exit to Fryers Road is beyond the bridge up a flight of steps. We then cross to the right side of the road to find the pavement, which leads past industrial buildings to Willenhall Lane. Here we cross the railway on a large modern footbridge - the shortest route uses steps but there are also ramps available, We then cross the B4210 and a small park to reach Bloxwich High Street, where the meeting point is a short distance to the north by bus stops on the right hand side.

08 Jan 2023Although the start of this route from Walsall felt frustratingly like I was heading the wrong direction, it soon transpired that the payoff is that this is actually the most pleasant and relaxing route between Walsall and Bloxwich. Not direct, but not badly indirect and definitely safe, offroad and easy to follow. No stiles or steps.

22 Jun 2022We walked the route from Walsall to Bloxwich on a lovely summer's day. The route is very easy to follow leaving Walsall from the canal basin and then doubling back slightly to join the Wyrley and Essington canal ascending past several locks and scenic countryside until the outskirts of Bloxwich were you leave the canal to pass an industrial estate, cross the railway and enter a residential area before arriving at Bloxwich high street.
