Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

17 Mar 2024I completed this walk today walking south from Bloxwich. An easy enough route which was quite enjoyable apart from the litter. It's along the Wyrley and Essington canal for the most part, and then the Walsall canal. I'll be honest, I did compare this route with Blowall three and only chose this as it still hadn't been 'snailed' yet. Another deciding factor was that this only misses out on half a km or so of canal at the Walsall end so didn't feel I was missing out on much and I was going on to do other Slow Ways after this one.
When you arrive at the railway on Reeves Street, you do have to cross the railway via the big green footbridge (photo 3) - something I don't think is clear on the gpx for the route but I don't think it's worth replotting.
The access down onto the canal (photo 5) is not stepped, and a little steep which could be slippy in the wet. The canal was quiet when we did the walk. After Birchills Junction the route joins the Walsall canal for a short while before leaving it just after the interesting Boatman's Rest building.
Can certainly recommend this route, especially to that person looking to complete the third review. :-).

07 Jan 2023 (edited 08 Jan 2023)Route which doesn't lose much direction but is very offroad. Mainly follows the Walsall Canal. Safe, direct, with no steps or stiles although leaving the canal at Fryers is a little steep. Shops, food and transport at either end.
