Description
Direct route from Bloxwich to Aldridge. Mainly via pavement in Blakenhall Heath then crosses the Lea (park). Picking up Harden Road it crosses the A461 then goes through a park then via a track to the towpath of the Wyrley and Essington Canal before reaching the west end of Aldridge. It's all pavement from there and goes via the town centre and the main bus stops through the shopping centre to the meeting place, which is slightly removed but is not too far

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

22 Feb 2024Leaving Bloxwich the side roads are quiet and comfortable to walk along. The canal tow path was a little muddy, but very enjoyable. I too made the a small detour to view and sample the Wetherspoons at Aldridge a converted 1930 cinema which is good too. Overall a good Slow Ways.

17 Jun 2023From Bloxwich the side roads are fairly quiet and comfortable to walk along. A selection of shops at Blakenall Heath before more quiet roads and a taste of green with tarmac paths. The map shows lots of off road routes / cycle ways but all head in the wrong direction for our journey. The canal path was so peaceful and I was amazed to see orchids growing. Another surprise was a petrol station with shop in the middle of the industrial estate. I made a small detour to view and sample the Wetherspoons at Aldridge a converted 1930 cinema with a map of the Birmingham canal network on the stairs to the loos. I then sat on The Croft to eat lunch. A good walk in this urban area.

23 Aug 2021I started in Bloxwich on a rainy Saturday morning. The route from the meeting place (by the bus stops) soon leaves the bustle of the High Street to join suburban pavements of Blakenhall Heath. After a start of pavement pounding you are soon crossing a local patch of green space, the Lea. It seemed everyone I passed wished me a good morning and I was struck with how incredibly friendly this area is. Beyond the Lea you follow the road down to the main, Harden Road. This takes you to Rushall where the biggest concentration of takeaways and shops is, as you cross the Lichfield Road. There are a series of pedestrian crossings to take you to Rushall Park which is where the next stage of the walk is. Having crossed the park, you join a lane which brings you to the towpath of the Wyrley and Essington Canal. The canal doesn't appear to allow boats to travel, so the water is clear but full of vegetation. After this particularly relaxing section. You leave the canal and make your way around the business park west end of Aldridge. The final section crosses a park by the stream and then crossing a road into the car park of Morrisons. Following the pedestrian lane you emerge on to the High Street and cross where the road narrows to a single lane. It is here that the bus interchange is, and in my opinion, the benches between the bus stops (to all destinations) and Costa Coffee would make a far better meeting place than the destination to get to which you go through the shopping centre and cross a small park. This route is direct, safe and well served. The section along the canal is probably the most serene but I can't see how it could be done better. Full marks.
