Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

13 Jan 2022This is a good enjoyable walk in a beautiful area but takes a rather circuitous route between Blagdon and Butcombe when there is a more direct option available which is also good. Hence three stars and not more from me.
It goes through rollingly hilly farmland and there are some long gentle to moderate climbs. Access is a mixture of gates and some stiles and the way is mostly reasonably easy to navigate. There are bus services from Bristol to both villages (not on Sundays and only a couple a day to Blagdon).
From Blagdon, the way heads downhill on an attractive path through fields and woods across the shallow valley of the River Yeo, and over some arable land to cross a minor road at Aldwick, where the are vineyards and orchards around. There is then a climb up through some woods and a kilometre of track and road through intensively farmed land to Lye Hole, where the ongoing route follows the Two Rivers Way for a while, first along a quiet lane and then steadily uphill through a big grassy field towards Butcombe. I have previously walked through this in early summer when the grass was growing on for a silage cut and it was a long slow wade but fine at most times of year.
At the top of the hill and across another lane the path drops down into a little valley of scrubby, anthill-filled pastures which are colourful with wild flowers in the summer. Here it crosses the first of two wooded stream courses over a footbridge (and departs from the two Rivers Way) and then goes over a second stream, which lacks a footbridge but is crossable in almost all weathers without getting your feet wet. The path infrastructure in the valley is generally a bit rickety and the way through way is not always immediately obvious. There is also a little boggy patch around springs (at approx what3words exploring.revolts.winks) but the area is a delightful little wildlife haven in an area where ryegrass pastures are the rule. After about a kilometre there is a right turn down a damp bridleway to a house and from there the route resumes a more straightforward course uphill through big green pastures towards Regilbury Court.
The remainder of the walk is a lovely up and down stroll with long views of the country around, mostly through stock pastures with some sections of quiet lane walking. There is a country pub that does food - The Crown at Regil - not far from the end of the route at Winford.
