I walked this direct route from Oswaldtwistle to Blackburn as the last of several routes, and setting off uphill into the wind felt like a bit of a slog. As I got higher, towards the M65, there were views of the distant countryside, including Darwen Tower.
There was a fairly steady stream of cars with some breaks from the noise, although no noise breaks in the vicinity of the M65. After crossing the motorway, it was mostly downhill. I passed several other walkers along the way. There were pubs and shops between the M65 and Blackburn. There were also long queues of cars and occasional buses further into Blackburn.
About 1 mile from the Blackburn end there were some paths set back a bit from the road, which made it a bit less fume-filled and marginally quieter.
The final bit of the route went through the lower floor of a multistorey supermarket car park!! As far as I could see this would remain open after hours, but may not be very pleasant. Also, starting from the station, it would be confusing to find, because the entrance is closer to the railway line than the plot suggests. Follow the orange line on my map picture.
I am never a fan of “sat-nav for cars” routes, so I cannot give this route more than 3*. I’m sure a more pleasant option could be devised, although this route is likely the shortest.

A lovely route, different from what our team is used to but it was a good change. The train station is a good meeting point as it was easy for our out of town members to reach.
The route was easy to follow, mainly walking along the main roads. Would of been nice to have some country side walking as didn't really notice many view along the way.

Some interesting world war history along the way which was a surprise. End point is a local pub, which does not offer food but few cafes further down if you wished to stop before heading back. Overall a 10 mile trail we as a club would make it has moderate, although it is a fairly flat trail the duration makes up for the intensity.
