Description
I think this uses a preferable route (compared with BlaKir One) via parks and woods between Blackpool and Staining. It also avoids the fairly busy and fast looking road between Weeton and Wesham which has no pavement or verge

11 May 2023From Blackpool, Stanley Park is lovely, with flower beds, a lake, and a gorgeous Art Deco café. The only reason to walk round the outside of it would be if the gates were locked, which may be the case before 9am and after 5pm. The walk through the woods (carpeted with wild garlic in spring) between Woodside Drive and the stream, alongside the zoo, is a much nicer route than walking alongside the hospital. So I think the start of this route is much better than BlaKir One.
There are parallel paths and cycle tracks as you cross to Staining, so it can be a bit confusing. I have plotted exactly what I walked, and it worked well. Staining, a third of the way, has a pub, benches, bus stops and a convenience shop.
At Todderstaff Farm a narrow track next to the caravans led to a farm track where there was a slightly intimidating “Stop” sign. Don’t be put off - it's a public right of way, the sign is for cars.
After crossing the railway another farm track became a field path parallel to the railway. The grass was quite long here, but you can see that it is used regularly. In fact, I met someone who uses it regularly to walk between the barracks and Weeton and loves it. The path by the stile at the corner next to the stream felt a bit tricky, so take care there. Weeton had a very nice pub/restaurant.
Quiet roads and tracks took me from Weeton, over the motorway, to enter a sheep field. This was fine, but after the traditional narrow bridge in the corner, the diagonal public footpath across the field had been obliterated by crops and I had to walk around the side towards the tennis courts. There was then a bit of rough land alongside the tennis courts to reach a rickety stile onto a good path around a warehouse to the football stadium. This path is obviously in use, but not well maintained. The alternatives to this would use quite busy roads though. From here, it was just a bit of pavement pounding to reach the station, then the centre of Kirkham.
Although this route had overgrowth issues in places, it was mostly very easy going and often very pleasant indeed. Compared with most cross-Fylde routes it was pretty dry and accessible too!.
