12 Jul 2024 Summer

I walked from Corhampton to Bishops Waltham on a lovely sunny day. Really enjoyed the route, even though it is very wiggly and goes back and forth quite a lot!
The route passes over the rolling hills of the South Downs and through some lovely rural villages, took me about 3 hours in all at a moderate pace.

A few little route amendments I would suggest due to the excessive wiggles, or local knowledge.
I started from the village shop in Corhampton, before heading towards Meonstoke, and joining the Meon Valley Trail (the old railway line) on Pound lane (down steps) (rather than walking across the fields as the real route does - but I forgot what I was following as I'm local!). You follow the trail to Brockbridge where it crosses the main road before going around Droxford Station. You can come off here either side of the road, but personally would suggest crossing the road before coming off as I think its safer (its a blind corner and a fast road). You then walk down to the River Meon at Droxford, again don't stress about finding the footpath up to the Village shop, just follow the main path past the mill onto Mill Lane (its much prettier and FAR safer than walking down the A32 - you can do this perfectly safely, there is pavement, there is just no need). The path then heads up the hill, past the school into the Downs, which have some beautiful views across the valley, although a bit of a climb. As you enter the woods out the back of Dundridge the SlowWays path does a funny loop up to the road, but there is absolutely no need for this, just follow the sign-posted path down the hill to re-join the route! In Dundrige you pass the Hampshire Bowman (one of the best pubs in Hampshire) and do another loop, but again, you could just walk down the road (Dundridge lane) to re-join the path. Its then over the hill to Bishops Waltham which is a beautiful Historic Market Town with lots of little coffee shops, pubs, and bus links.
A lovely route, pretty well sign-posted, enjoying some of Hampshire's beautiful countryside and villages.
Small warning - no buses in Corhampton!.
