Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Crossing under the railway east of Aslockton is not feasible. There is no right of way, no path on the ground and the approaches are barbed wired.

The third of three routes I used on a long walk from West Bridgford to Bottesford.

On the map, this route appealed to me more than BinBot one, as it avoids the A52 and I liked the idea of following the river east of Aslockton.
Most of it is fine, though there are accessibility issues since much of it follows field paths that are unsurfaced and there are stiles. It was also welcome to get off surfaced tracks after the amount of road walking on the West Bridgford-Radcliffe-Bingham routes.
I do have one serious concern, which means that I can't recommend the route and that it needs to be redrawn. This is that there is no right of way or safe crossing across the railway on the bank of the River Smite east of Aslockton. So I was forced to backtrack all the way to Aslockton station and find a better route further north. In other places, the GPX file is very slapdash and is difficult to follow on the ground, so even without this problem, it would benefit from being redrawn, which is why I created Binbot three.
