Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

I walked this from Stotfold to Biggleswade. The countryside is quite flat but still full of interest. You are mainly walking at the edge of agricultural fields. You do cross the very busy rail line twice. Once ringing up the York ROC and waiting for permission to cross and then ringing them back up after crossing to let them know you had done it. The next crossing was light controlled which I found I trusted less. A village shop at the exit of Langford was much appreciated.

Overall, a pleasant walk in the countryside with a short section through the town of Langford and the final piece into Biggleswade.
From the start in Stotfold, you walk along the side of fields. There is a bit of a climb up to the road and the final 10m before crossing the road was overgrown as can be seen in one of the pictures.
You leave fields and enter Langford via a footpath across the railway, and leave it by crossing back. Shortly after getting back onto the fields, there is a section that differs slightly from the slowways route. It's fairly obvious when you get there but it involves a left turn and then right turn back on yourself as there is crops blocking the straight route forward. After this point, the path is wider and flatter and takes you into Biggleswade.
