Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Steve Litchfield

19 Feb 2023 Winter

Completed this good walk today, travelling eastwards from Bidford. It mainly utilises footpaths next to the river, so is easy pretty straightforward. There is a small bit of road walking, but when we did the walk the traffic wasn't too bad. The bridge at the start in Bidford has some refuges to hide from the traffic (photo 1).

The last month or so has been dry, so there were no issues with mud or flooding as you might expect next to the river in Winter, but I can imagine some sections would not be passable after long periods of heavy rain. The section after Barton has depth gauges next to the road for this reason (photo 6).

There are a couple of pubs in Welford at the half way point, both needing a small detour to get to from the route. We chose the Four Alls by the river. There were a number of gates, footbridges and steps to negotiate, but as the route followed the course of the river, it was pretty flat throughout.

An easy route from Bidford to Stratford, mostly following the Avon river. An almost flat route, with no stiles.
