Description

Similar to Bexswa one but short cut at Bexley (Albert Road) and after the lovely Joyden Woods through the golf course. The final section goes through Swanley Park as suggested by Daisy C. There's a café and toilets next to the boating lake. Access to Swanley Centre is by Sycamore Drive and continues to the station by St. Mary's Road

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

This was overall a good route, but there were a few places you can't really walk (across the golf course, and the south west corner of Swanley Park). I also found the route to be hard to follow, as it was crudely drawn. I'm therefore flagging this, and adding a new variant. The review as posted here, would also directly apply to that new variant.

I started from Bexleyheath after a 900 metre walk from the station. This route uses Albert Road to central Bexley. Stable Lane is very quiet. The footpath entrance to Joyden's Wood is to the left of the (locked) gate. The surface through the wood is firm and slightly uphill. The route goes right at the end of this track and then there's a metal gate giving access to the golf course. The path is straight ahead then bends right towards the club house. The route continues through the car park to pass Stonehill Farm. After crossing Birchwood Road you can go through the gap in the hedge but it's easier to go west 50 metres and use the track to get to the footpath next to the fence. After crossing Leydenhatch Lane the path is immediately on the left and leads to Swanley Park. Follow the miniature railway to get to the boating lake, café (open all year) and toilets or fork right to continue. The route then passes the Dawn to Dusk Day Nursery building and the track to the overflow car park to reach the park exit to Moreton Close. Continue straight on to join Sycamore Drive into the town centre. Pass St. Mary's Church onto St. Mary's Road. The station is down Everest Place in 500 metres. There's no ticket barrier. Toilets are on platform 1/2.
