Description

Alternative but similar option (direction: Beverley to Cottingham). On Minster Yard South, turn left into Long Lane. Take second on left (on bend) on to signposted public footpath (bridge over Mill Dam Drain). After carefully crossing the railway line, bear to the right as the path turns to the left (look for public footpath signpost). Continue in southerly direction alongside hedge (so parallel to railway with Minster Way [A164] in the distance). Walk under Minster Way flyover (immediately next to railway), follow public footpath signpost and continue alongside railway line on to tarmac path (The Old Granary). Where path meets Long Lane, turn right and cross railway line. Take first left on to Park Lane (this is National Cycle Route nos 1 and 66). Continue along Park Lane (past Model Farm, over A1079, past Poplar Farm and Creyke Beck Substation, then westwards), following National Cycle Route signs. On reaching Northgate in Cottingham at the end of Park Lane, turn left. At the railway crossing, turn right into Station Road. Cottingham Railway Station is on the left

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

I prefer this route out of Beverley as it is much more straightforward if you do not have a navigation aid or os map. Also there is no flight of steps. But by continuing along Park Lane after the sub-station there is a lot of hard surface which can make feet quite hot and uncomfortable. Also some road walking although this is a quiet lane. I think this route would offer more accessibility though as it avoids the barriers nr Millbeck.

I am going to add another route which combines the best bits (for me) of bevcot 1 and 2 plus a little variation at the end to simplify navigation near Millbeck Wildlife area.

The gpx map is for bevcot one which is of no use at all. If I am able I will add a gpx file of this route as it is worth doing.
