13 May 2024Quite an interesting walk. Goes through a nice park and some fields. It does cross a very busy motorway. The Pickled Goose is a nice pub along the route. At one point the route goes down the side of a house which isn't obvious. You have to look for the sign that says 'keep to the path'. Worth noting that the last part of the route is entirely along an A-Road.

13 Oct 2021Heading south, the first mile is along the fairly busy A6. It’s a good idea to stay on the east side of the road, as the west side doesn’t always have a pavement. However, it will be necessary to cross the busy road just before the layby to reach the poorly signposted field footpath. At least there is a good view of the traffic, and there are usually gaps.
The footpaths through the fields are just visible, but have long grass and may have some mud. There is a rather rickety stile next to a padlocked gate to be careful of, and a simple plank bridge with a stable handrail crossing a small ditch, and the fields are left via a public footpath through a private garden. There was a fairly obvious diversion due to water board work, but this should be temporary.
The next mile of the route is an off-road tarmacked cycle track, part of the Preston Guild Wheel, eventually crossing the M55. After this, a quiet path alongside the railway leads to a tunnel under the railway and into the very pleasant Conway Park, which is a wooded valley with a good gravelled path. Shallow cobbled steps lead onto Ashwood Road, a residential street, leading back to the A6 and into Fulwood.
This is a nice enough route, despite a lot of housebuilding going on, and it could be combined with BarFul Two to make an oval loop, with several refreshment options at the two nodes.
