21 May 2023I walked this route from Witney to Bampton, the opposite direction to the previous reviewer. I agree with all the points made: in particular the comment about the footpath beside Barleypark Farm. I walked this in May and it was getting overgrown - secateurs might be useful if walking later in the year, and I'd recommend leg coverings as there were quite a lot of nettles.
Walking in the direction I chose does offer nice views of Bampton as you approach it.

21 Apr 2022About half of this route is on roads. From Bampton towards Witney you walk along a very minor road with hardly any traffic and it's not unpleasant at all with good views in places. The walk then takes you across several pasture fields which in April were full of sheep with their lambs. Just before Barleypark Farm there's a gate with a choice of routes - straight on or diagonally right. The Slow Ways route goes straight on and then to the left of Barleypark Farm where a fence has been erected which restricts walkers to a very narrow footpath alongside a hedgerow. In fact the footpath has been made out of the hedgerow by cutting it back so the ground was very uneven with lots of trip hazards and exposed roots, so quite difficult going. Our preferred route was to the right of Barleypark Farm which is slightly longer but more open and you walk down the drive of Barleypark Farm. With both options you have to cross the busy A415 to reach Ducklington village. The route was well waymarked but we needed a map as we couldn't see the stiles on the far side of the large pasture fields to know where we were headed. A bus connects Bampton and Witney on Monday to Saturdays which is convenient for a walk in one direction.
