A more enjoyable walk than anticipated. A mix of typical field paths and urban pavements. The highlight for me was Caldecote Hall now apartments. The mapped path here was obstructed but the route as plotted along the drive offered an alternative and direct path to the church which stands by the river. We had concern about flooding of the River Anker but the only evidence of this was at the footbridge by Mancetter Mill.

PS David did a good job creating this off road route. Historic footpaths across the Proving Ground would have offered a direct Leicestershire route from Higham via Fenny Drayton and Witherley but these paths were stopped up by emergency powers in 1940.

A pleasant and varied walk. Housing development on the edge of Hinckley threatens to change it. Definitely one to wear boots for. Pretty easy to follow, although there were a couple of slightly overgrown stiles and bridge.

Walked from Hinckley to Atherstone on a fine early spring day. The ground was still quite soft and muddy in places after a wet start to the year.

The first part of the route, to the edge of Hinckley, is mostly urban, a mixture of pavements and parks, there are also a few steps. We tried the footpath used by AthHin one and found it blocked by a building site fence, hence the more indirect route choice here. Once out of Hinckley we are on a fairly well used if muddy field path, mostly well marked though there was one field where the right of way line straight across was not well cut. The roads in and out of Higham lack pavements but are quiet enough for this not to be a safety issue.

Just before we reach the A5, an underpass takes us right under the main road on the line of an old railway, which we follow past Weddington, an outer suburb of Nuneaton. Another field path takes us across to Caldecotte Hall, where we couldn't see any evidence of the right of way across the horse pastures, so we used the drive to reach the church. We head right either through or around the trees and past an ornamental pond to join a better trodden path which takes us to Woodford Lane, which is quite busy but has fairly walkable verges.

We soon leave the road across more fields most of the way to Witherley, before heading left across Roman Mancetter and the river to Nuneaton Road. The rest of the route is an easy pavement walk.

Didn't spot any facilities other than benches in the middle part of the route - the last pub in Higham is boarded up, and the community is clearly some way off their aim to reopen it.
