11 Feb 2024I walked this on a slightly drizzly Saturday morning, from Ashford to Sunbury.
The first thing I noticed leaving the station was pavement parking (photo #1), which proceeded to be a big annoyance all the way until ending up alongside the A308. The first two-thirds is along fairly green residential streets (photo #2) with wide pavements (photo #3, #4), although these were again full of cars (photo #5). The section along the A308 was unpleasant (photo #6). And it would probably be way worse with pollution when the temperature goes up. I didn't really find the entrances at the roundabout (photo #7) hard to find. I don't think this route should be flagged because of it. Especially because I'd expect people have an actual map in some form with them as well, and OpenStreetMap has it perfectly mapped, as the image by Jane indicates.
It's a direct route, and safe, but not very green, so only three stars.

06 May 2023I walked from Ashford to Sunbury.
To address the poor mapping across the roundabout at Sunbury. On approach you can see the underpass where it is open in the middle of the roundabout so you know there is one, but yes, the entrances are not well marked. There were many paths under the roundabout and they are not signed, a bit of a maze. But I do not think this is a major issue.
This walk is entirely on pavements and one that can be done with a wheelchair or buggy. Some greenery would be nice but that would involve a very long indirect route, this route is direct, flat and functional. Pavement parking seems to be a local occupation taken to Olympic levels with cars parked with quite remarkable carelessness. Fortunately the pavements are really quite wide and they turn the walk into a slalom course rather than blocking it.
Huge variety of shops along the way.

05 Apr 2023Walked Sunbury to Ashford. It's an urban walk with little green and plenty of big roads. But it's direct and does its job of connecting these two edge-of-London communities. There isn't really much scope for getting onto back roads.
I have a concern about the roughly drawn route-line at Sunbury, which - being a bit astray - does not in my opinion make it sufficiently clear to use the underpass to cross between the town and the railway station. This will be more likely to cause problems walking Ashford to Sunbury for anyone who doesn't have local knowledge, because it's quite easy to miss the subway access if you are not looking for it.
Access to the underpass is by the mini Clock Tower - see photo taken from google maps.
I also attach a map showing how the route works through the underpass.
In time I expect the Slow Ways network will allow minor tweaks to routes and this would be a good candidate for such tweaking! Meanwhile I am flagging this as a 2 star 'maybe' for further opinions. Without this issue I'd give 3 stars.

31 Jul 2021Wide pavements make the journey easy for everyone except the very last section at the A316 roundabout. Here you need to use the underpass which is not possible for some due to pedestrian barriers. It is ok to walk to the station not using the underpasses, but this will be only practical during early mornings or when the traffic is at a minimum.
