Description
Ashford to Hounslow, tries to avoid main roads as much as possible, and maximise green spaces.
It's not possible to avoid the roads altogether but there are good pavements throughout.
Some refreshment places on the way.
It's a little longer than some other options, and bypasses central Feltham, but this route has some very lovely passages, and is the one I would walk again

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

12 Sep 2024I liked this route and enjoyed the amount of greenery for a suburban London Slow Way.

09 Sep 2024I enjoyed this route! Mostly suburban, but with some great extended stretches across parks and green spaces, including park of Hounslow Heath.
It's a strong suburban route that I would give 4 stars to if it wasn't for part of the route going through a dark tunnel. It's only about 20 metres, but it goes around a bend. I enjoyed it, but others will feel intimidated!
I would walk this route again for sure.

27 Sep 2024Thanks for the review Dan! The spooky tunnel (aka the Cavalry Tunnel): I gather that the local authority is looking at lighting or CCTV for this section, money permitting. This part of the route has recently been added to the London Loop so it is getting more use.

11 Jul 2024I started at Ashford Town Centre where there are several small supermarkets. Buses run to Staines, Kingston, Twickenham and Hounslow. The route passes through Ashford Recreation Ground where there are accessible toilets. The B377 Feltham/Ashford Road is a little tedious until the path diverges from the road into a meadow. There's a traffic light crossing next to Feltham Cemetery and soon after two lovely green spaces off Ludlow Road through to Felthambrock Way. The entrance to the extensive Hanworth Park is off Elmwood Avenue. There are benches to sit and watch the butterflies. On the other side of the park, Uxbridge Road is quite busy and difficult to cross but there are gaps in the traffic! Leitrim Park leads towards Pevensey Road Nature Reserve where you take a sharp left onto a newly surfaced path and under the railway. The path alongside the river Crane was OK but had several large puddles. On Hounslow Heath you follow the fence line to a carpark on the Staines Road. There's a pedestrian crossing here. After a number of back streets and two main roads with pedestrian crossings, there's a footpath through to Bulstrode Gardens and Hounslow Central tube station (toilets). Buses back to Kingston stop near the next station, Hounslow East. In all a pleasant 7 miles in spite of the planes landing over Hounslow.

06 Apr 2023A surprisingly enjoyable route between Ashford and Hounslow. There are some frustrations - it’s not possible to avoid the B377 at Ashford - but there is a lot of green on this route and some is splendid - skylarks at St Dunstan’s meadow, butterflies at Hounslow Heath - awesome!
Crossing the Uxbridge road (A312) at about the half way mark needs a little patience.
There are a few pubs on the way for refreshments and comfort breaks.
I walked it in both directions while reccying: it’s a little longer than some alternatives I tried, but this is the one I would look forward to walking again.
