Description

(Described West to East)

The route follows the canal at Ash Vale - you can also cross the canal and keep the ranges on your east (there is a path skirting the fence).

Around Ash, you can bail at Ash station (connections Guildford and Reading - if needing Ash Vale, go to North Camp). Then it is a bit fiddly in the woods at Ash, there are some cut-throughs, but I wouldn't want to send non-locals that way. You can go along Guildford road for a bit before turning toward Wanborough, but the route takes footpaths wherever possible. The section near the A31 isn't ideal, but you cross the A31 at a bridge. There is a footpath to the east, but there you have to cross the A31, so this seemed the better option. And there are pubs in Puttenham; I recommend 'The Good Intent' which is to the west of the route. The Jolly Farmer is right on the route.

The section east of Puttenham follows the North Downs Way, and takes you under the A3 at Watts Gallery. There is a tea shop here.

The path into Guildford follows a ridge giving a view over the town , As you descend The Mount, you pass Lewis Carroll's burial spot.

If you wish, rather than go via the Mount, you could take the North Downs Way instead and then enter Guildford by walking along the Wey.

The route has some canal, some fields, some trees, some hills and some town. It has pub options at the halfway point

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.
