Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

A lovely, albeit tough route. This is an undulating route, taking in some stunning countryside views between Ashford and Barham.

It’s generally easy to navigate, although there are some points where you lose the path through open pasture land or in wooded sections. Planning the route in advance and taking a map will certainly help.

Four notes of caution. 1. The section just outside of Ashford (Goodcheap Farm) is overgrown and boggy. It’s very, very easy to lose the path. Keep to the north of the dyke and pick your way through the tussocks. 2. The route passes through Great Dowles Farm, just off Stone Street. A homeowner told me that I was off the public right of way; I’ve checked and I wasn’t. They were fine, but it’s one to be aware of. 3. Take care on the 0.4 mile stretch along Stone Street. I avoided most by walking along the edge of a parallel field. 4. There are grazing cattle throughout the route, they’re fine and left me alone, but I advise caution for those with dogs.

Enjoy this beautiful, but hilly route!.
