Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

21 Apr 2025I started from Airton (having just walked from Hellifield), and followed the initial, pretty, and nicely managed Riverside Walk footpath on the west of the River Aire, but took a detour to have some lunch at the Town End Farm Shop Café, which was very nice with a view of Malham Cove.
Back on track, it was the well managed Pennine Way all the way to Malham. This was very nice and followed the River Aire right to its source at the confluence of two small becks. Along the way, there were excellent views of Hanlith Hall, where another detour would have been possible, to the pub at Kirkby Malham.
Parts of the riverside path looked as though they could be muddy after lots of rain, but it was fine when I walked it, and it was a peaceful and beautiful walk. There were good views of Malham Cove towards the end.
I picked the wrong day for visiting Malham, a sunny Easter Sunday, and it was heaving with visitors, most of whom seemed not to be venturing far!
A gorgeous route, nonetheless.
