A good and safe walk with a number of obstacles on the route - stiles, narrow gate (14"), five bared gates and steep earth steps.
The footpaths range from residential, compacted earth, gravel, pasture and minor road without footpath, one of the pasture fields showed evidence of cows.
The footpath was walked after a dry spell but some areas looked as though they may get muddy, and the footpath also passes close to a stream that could flood.
The motorway is crossed by a road bridge at Bolton West motorway services, care should be taken as there are no footpaths but a wide range of services are available here, even a hotel!.
