Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

10 Jul 2022May 2022. Direction: Gairlochy - Spean Bridge, then Gairlochy - Achnacarry,
From Gairlochy, the path to Spean Bridge follows the minor B8004 road with some great views across to Ben Nevis (Photo 1). After around a mile it turns off into the caravan park on the right and then follows the hillside of the lovely Spean Valley. After a while, the High Bridge (Photo 2) comes into view. The bridge is now a ruin, but has significant historical interest, as this is where the first shots of the 1745 jacobite uprising took place. Some lovely scenery follows as the path winds its way through a patchwork of glades and broadleaved woodland as it nears Spean Bridge (Photo 3). The last part for around a quarter of a mile into Spean Bridge is along the busy and noisy A82 road, but there is a pavement to follow.
The Gairlochy to Achnacarry stretch is part of the Great Glen Way walk. From Gairlochy, there`s a short lane stretch on the other side of the canal, then the path goes down to Loch Lochy and follows the shoreline fairly closely through woodland, with some great views across the loch and back to Ben Nevis (Photos 5 and 6). The walk then leaves the Great Glen Way and follows the private road up to Achnacarry.
An excellent walk overall with a wide variety of landscapes and scenery. Not really one for wheeling though.
