    1. For this survey I walked from West Rainton to Houghton-le-Spring. The route starts outside a Costcutter supermarket that sells sandwiches, snacks and drinks and is open early till late every day. There's also a Downeys fish and chip takeaway with more restricted opening times. The route begins by crossing the main road through the village and turning down a quieter road which also has to be crossed and then a quiet lane with speed bumps. All are fully paved. The route soon turns onto an unmade grass & earth path that gets v muddy at times. I haven't included photos of this as the number of pics it's possible to include is limited so I'll show only the main hazards. First hazard is this stile. No way round for wheelers. There are 4 more like this along the route but no pics due to limit on numbers. 0.75 km from start — 19 May 2021

    2. After a path through a field, another stile and an often muddy unmade path the route becomes this loose gravelly path. 1.5 km from start — 19 May 2021

    3. There's then a short section of paved, quiet road (no pavement) before the route turns left through this barrier. There's a kissing gate at the right hand side and a horse stile at the left. 2 km from start — 19 May 2021

    4. The route continues along a firm but gravelly path with a grass ridge down the middle. Large puddles often form in wet weather. 2.5 km from start — 19 May 2021

    5. There are 2 gates like this along this section of the path. There are stiles to the left of each one but the gates can't be opened and there's no way round for wheelers. 3 km from start — 19 May 2021
