    1. For this survey of 'Shoche one' I cycled from Chester to Shotton. This photo shows the start of the Wales Coastal path and the general quality of the paving along it. In this section of the route, there is little to no drop-off close to the path (although it does drop down quite steeply to the river level well to the left of this view). 2.8 km from start — 25 Apr 2024

    2. First angled cycle gate encountered on route. About 45cm wide at top of frame. 4.7 km from start — 25 Apr 2024

    3. General view of the path further along the route, showing the drop-off towards the river is now much closer to the path. There is also a steep drop-off towards bushes and fields on the right-hand side. 5 km from start — 25 Apr 2024

    4. One of the many slalom-style gates on route, which typically allow 135-140cm between the two middle poles. This one is just before the A494 bridge. Under the bridge is the narrowest 'pinch point' between the metal fence and the concrete structure, at 120cm wide. 9.9 km from start — 25 Apr 2024

    5. This is another version of a cycle/angled gate, on the Shotton side of Jubilee Bridge (and just after another slalom-style gate). This one is about 47cm wide at the narrowest point. 10.3 km from start — 25 Apr 2024

    6. This is view of the metal ramp onto Hawarden Bridge, on the Shotton side. It is not very clear from the multi-signed direction post that you are supposed to go up this ramp if travelling from Shotton towards Chester. At the bottom is the narrowest cycle/angled gate (see later photo). 11.8 km from start — 25 Apr 2024

    7. Narrowest cycle/angled gate, at the bottom of the ramp from Hawarden Bridge (Shotton end - see previous photo). This one is only 35cm wide, and most cyclists I saw chose to go between the gate and the wooden fence around it, rather than try to go through it. Only children's bikes and racing models seemed to fit through without dismounting. 11.8 km from start — 25 Apr 2024

    8. Rather confusing multi-direction signpost at the bottom of the ramp from Hawarden Bridge (Shotton end). If coming from Shotton, ignore the sign and go up the ramp towards the bridge. If coming from Chester, follow the sign towards Shotton/Shotton station. 11.9 km from start — 25 Apr 2024
